Being arrested for a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in Las Vegas, whether for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, is typically the starting point to a stressful, embarrassing, costly, and drawn-out engagement with the Courts and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Our DUI office can provide you with affordable legal service so that you are adequately informed and properly represented throughout the process.
The Las Vegas court system is confusing and having an experienced DUI lawyer to guide you through the process is advantageous. While it may cost you financially, having a lawyer represent you will oftentimes not only make sure that your rights are being protected, but will also make sure that you are aware of all your legal options and the repercussions. In a time when sobriety tests are commonly administered falsely and evidence is suppressed, having experienced legal representation can ensure you get the fairest trial and suffer the fewest legal consequences.
There are some strong arguments in favor of hiring a lawyer to represent your DUI case. DUI attorney Joseph P. Reiff can help you by possibly having your charges dropped or significantly lowered and can aid in the negotiating of your potential sentence. Our DUI law office is experienced with the Las Vegas court system and the process of going to trial for a DUI crime. Our office can give you legal DUI advice and protect your rights.
DUI and Auto Insurance
A Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas DUI conviction can cause your Nevada car insurance rates to increase dramatically. If you have been cited for a DUI, your insurance premiums may double, and in some cases, it could even triple if your car insurance carrier finds out. Your insurance could even be cancelled.
When you are convicted of a DUI, you become a risk to all car insurance companies. If you previously had a "preferred driver" policy, which is an insurance policy that will have much lower insurance premiums than high-risk drivers, your insurance rates will most likely go up and you will lose your preferred status. Your rates will increase because your car insurance carrier will consider you a financial risk. If your Nevada carrier underwrites a car insurance policy for you, it may have to pay out a large sum of money if you have a car accident that causes substantial damage or causes bodily harm to someone.
Las Vegas DUI attorney Joseph Reiff can help you negotiate a lower fine (or in some cases no fine) and fewer or no points on your driving record. If your case must go to trial, we have the knowledge and experience necessary to give you the best possible chance to beat your traffic, speeding, or DUI ticket.

First Time DUI Conviction
The first time you are convicted in Nevada for DUI will cost you between $400 and $1,000. You may be given a jail sentence between 2 days to 6 months, or you will be ordered to serve 96 hours of community service. Your drivers license will be suspended for 90 days. After half of your drivers license suspension has passed, the court may allow you to drive with a restricted license for the remainder of your sentence. You will also be ordered to attend a DUI class which will cost you $325. In addition, you will pay a victim's impact panel fine in the amount of $50. You may also be ordered to attend an alcohol treatment program if your blood alcohol content (BAC) was .08 or above. Clark County Coroner's DUI Program
Second DUI Conviction
If your second drunk driving conviction was within 7 years of the previous DUI, your Nevada drivers license will be suspended for 1 year without the possibility of a restricted license being issued to you. You will also be ordered to jail or residential confinement from 10 days to 6 months. The fine for your second DUI will be from $750 to $1,000 and you will be ordered to serve from 100 to 200 hours of community service. The court may suspend the registration of your vehicle and you may also be placed under clinical supervision of a treatment facility for up to 1 year.
Third DUI Conviction
If you are convicted for drunk driving a third time within 7 years of your previous conviction, your Nevada drivers license will be revoked for 3 years. You will also be sentenced to prison from 1 to 6 years and fined from $2,000 to $5,000. Your vehicle registration could be suspended and you may be ordered to attend an alcohol treatment program for a minimum of 3 years.
DUI Causing Death or Serious Injury
If you are convicted of DUI and you were the at fault driver of an accident that caused the death or serious injury of another person, your drivers license may be revoked for 3 years. You could also be sentenced to prison for 2 to 20 years and be fined from $2,000 to $5,000. Not to mention any civil penalties and judgments from a third party lawsuit.

The Clark County Coroner's DUI Program is a court-ordered class designed for adults who have been arrested for a DUI offense. The program is designed to deter criminal offenders by educating them about the finality of driving while impaired.
The program starts in a class-room setting where attendees learn about the responsibilities of the the Coroner and Medical Examiner's Office and review local cases of DUI fatalities. No one will see an autopsy, but attendees will get a tour of the Coroner's office.
The cost to attend the DUI program is $150
